User Experience (UX) Director

At Macquarium we are a team of passionate dreamers, thinkers, and doers. We design and create exciting and meaningful customer-centric digital experiences. We are currently looking for an experienced User Experience Director to join our Crew.
The UX Director plays a key role in nearly every project working with strategists and designers to lay the groundwork for interesting, innovative, and useful experiences for engaging websites and other products.   This is a client-facing leadership role that requires selling UX capabilities to clients as well as general comfort presenting ideas and deliverables. Prior experience leading UX for web and mobile applications, product development and/or service design engagements within complex systems is ideal. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct stakeholder and user interviews
  • Lead Customer Journey Mapping sessions 
  • Collect and document business and design requirements
  • Plan, conduct, and/or participate in user research
  • Create user and behavior models, including personas and scenarios
  • Conduct competitive and/or heuristic analyses
  • Contribute to or define user experience strategy
  • Architect effective design solutions that meet business and user needs
  • Freely ideate and conceptualize via sketches, concept models, etc.
  • Direct the creation of annotated wireframes and functional/interaction specifications
  • Identify and communicate design tradeoffs and alternatives, as needed
  • Understand taxonomy development and other aspects of content strategy
  • Present findings, design concepts, and rationale to clients
  • Plan and facilitate client workshops and team meetings
  • Interact and collaborate across internal disciplines
  • Work within established processes for design, development, and review
  • Contribute to defining and improving quality standards and methods
  • Web application design
  • Multi-platform/multi-channel design

  • Problem solving, resourcefulness, and forward thinking in IA and web design
  • Expertise with tools of the trade (e.g., OmniGraffle, Visio, or Axure)
  • Technical depth and understanding of the software development process
  • Expertise in designing for community engagement
  • Refined and compelling presentation skills in varied settings
  • Consultative nature with strong client relationship-building focus
  • Experience in eCommerce, intranet, or enterprise-class applications
  • Experience with lab-based and/or Guerrilla usability testing
 
Required Knowledge and Experience:
  • BS or BA degree in recognized field
  • 10+ years experience in Information Architecture, Interaction Design, User Experience, or Customer Experience
